La Croix Valmer
Beautiful by nature
Discreet coves, long sandy beaches, vineyards stretching right down to the sea, classified capes – La Croix Valmer boasts an array of exceptionally beautiful landscapes.
An unspoilt paradise
You’ll quickly become enchanted by this magnificent resort, which slopes gently down to the sea. From the heights, the grandiose view takes in the Maures and Estérel mountains. In the undergrowth, umbrella pines, mimosas, cork oaks and heathers welcome protected fauna (falcons, blackbirds, black-headed gulls, etc.). Further down, the coastline alternates between beaches lulled by turquoise waters (Débarquement, Sylvabelle, Gigaro, Baie de Briande…) and ledges sheltering unspoilt coves (le Vergeron, les Brouis), with two jewels in the crown: Cap Lardier and Cap Taillat.
Quality of life
La Croix Valmer is a quiet, peaceful place, far from the hustle and bustle, where residents and visitors alike enjoy a high quality of life. The first commune in the Var to commit to sustainable development with Agenda 21, and holder of numerous labels, this destination cultivates excellence in the enhancement of an environmentally protected site. The range of services on offer is complemented by a highly attractive leisure offer: renowned diving sites, sailing, kayaking, beach volleyball, hiking, marine trails, lazing about… there’s always an invitation to relax. On the horizon, the Port-Cros National Park and the Levant islands, accessible by pleasure boat in summer from the D-Day pontoon.
Wine tourism and a stroll through time
From the village to the sea, the link is most often made through sun-drenched vineyards, the land of passionate winegrowers proud to present excellent vintages in their cellars, the fruit of a mild climate all year round. More unusual, La Croix Valmer reveals buildings of great beauty, private villas and 19th-century “Belle Epoque” hotels, as well as traces of the past, such as the Roman ruins at Pardigon, the Napoleonic batteries at Lardier and the D-Day landing sites.
A village with a musical ear
In addition to Provencal markets and night markets, children’s shows and other events throughout the year, La Croix Valmer is a true family village, where the melodies of the Soirées d’été and the Festival des Anches d’Azur at the Forum Constantin lull you to sleep in the summer, in an atmosphere of good-natured conviviality and cheerfulness that’s very much part of the La Croix Valmer welcome.
A little background
The development of the village is due to the creation of a wine-growing company founded by Lyonnais silk industrialists in 1882. After being called La Croix, La Croix de Cavalaire and La Croix des Mimosas, the village became autonomous in 1929 and took the definitive name of La Croix Valmer in 1934. “La Croix” comes from a legend according to which the Roman emperor Constantine, on his way to Rome in 312 to eliminate one of his rivals, saw a cross appear here in the sky and these words: In Hoc Signo Vinces (By this sign, you will conquer). The 50’s contributed to the resort’s fame as a tourist destination.
